We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Itoco Garcia and Maria Niggle to First 5 Marin Children and Families Commission!
They were selected from a robust field of applicants with a wide range of experiences during the October commission meeting. Those recommendations were sent to the Marin County Board of Supervisors, who made the appointments at their November 3rd meeting.
Commissioner Garcia is the Superintendent of the Sausalito-Marin City School District. In his application, he stated that his goal for children 0-to-5 is “universal pre-K in our county and elimination of the opportunity gap by the time students start first grade.”
Commissioner Niggle is the director of collective impact for early childhood and community collaboratives with Marin Promise Partnership. In her application, she stated that her goal for children 0-to-5 is “To ensure every child in Marin has a healthy start, a head start, a fair start, a safe start in life with the help of caring families and communities” as defined by the Children’s Defense Fund.
